Having won the South London Division of the Veterans Track & Field League over 4 matches in the summer, the lady vets team travelled to Ashford for the South-east finals. Other finalists were Winchester, Herts Phoenix, Radley, Serpentine, Blackheath & Bromley and Cambridge Harriers, although by the day of the finals Winchester and Radley were obviously worried and had pulled out!
Di got us off to a flying start with a win in the 800m in the superb time of 2.15.5. In most of the track events we had 1st – 3rd places and finished in style by winning both relays. The 4 x 100m was a bit nervewracking but Angela leaned perfectly to give us a 57.23 to 57.48 win. Phew! The 4 x 400m was easier to watch as we won by 22secs in 4.27.68.
Over in the field events we were just as successful winning all the shot and javelin events courtesy of Julia, Charmaine, Liz and Di.
Other 1st places on the day came from Sally and Sue W (200m), Vanda (3000m) and Wendy (hammer). Also a small thank you to Di & Julia who amassed 41pts each and didn’t stop all day!
Cambridge Harriers were in the lead until event 3 at which point we took over and were never headed again, although at times there was only a 3pt gap, which kept us on our toes. The final score was Epsom & Ewell 252pts — Cambridge Harriers 233pts.
All the team competed so well. Everyone was willing to do a jump, throw or race that they don’t usually do in order to score some worthwhile points for the club. A real team performance which is what makes us such a force to be reckoned with and makes my job so much easier.
We have now been champions of the south-east for 6yrs in succession – a really remarkable achievement for a really remarkable team. Well done to all concerned.
Sue Boyman (Team Manager)
A duo of Epsom & Ewell Harriers veteran athletes have returned from the European Track & Field Championships in Izmir, Turkey, with a triple haul of medals.
Sue Dassie was part of the triumphant W60 4x100m relay team, clocking one minute 0.07 seconds to take the gold.
The quartet finished more than five seconds ahead of runners-up Germany, and 15 seconds ahead of bronze medallist Russia.
Clubmate Terry Bissett won silver in the M70 100m – his time at the tape (13.87 seconds) was only 0.11 seconds behind Ulf Restle of Germany at the top of the podium.
Bissett was also a runner-up to a German sprinter in the M70 200m, this time missing out to Friedhelm Adorf by 0.25 seconds, having finished in 28.51

Epsom 10 mile Road Race – 23rd November
A 10 mile road race starting and finishing by Epsom Downs racecourse. The course follows a loop on the roads around Epsom and Walton Downs. From the Racecourse it travels down Langley Vale and across Headley Heath returning through Walton on the Hill and Tadworth. It is undulating with most of the challenging hills, both ascents and descents, in the first 4 miles. After Headley Heath the course is fairly flat for another 3 miles before descending through Tadworth and the ‘switchback’ between miles 8 and 9 to Tattenham Corner with a gentle downhill in the last mile to the finish. Every finisher will get an Epsom 10 pen plus a medal to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of this event which was first run in 1963.

SOUTH LONDON HARRIERS
We look forward to hosting the next Ebbisham League at Track Coulsdon, Woodcote High School, Meadow Hill, Coulsdon, Surrey, CR5 2EH next Sunday 6th July 2014.
To ensure we do not upset our neighbors, please ask your members to use the MEADOW HILL entrance to the school, and not the MEADOW RISE entrance. The entrance will be marked with cones and there will be marshalls directing you to park on the school playground.
There is no cover or seating at the track so you might want to bring chairs and some form of cover if you have it, but we have ordered a warm sunny afternoon.
We will be serving drinks and refreshments during the afternoon.
We look forward to welcoming you to our new facility and hope we can replicate the great work done by Kingston and Walton in the first two matches.
